Styles in Golf from Old to New
Posted: August 10th, 2010 | Author: kelly | Filed under: Blog | No Comments »We all know traditional golf clothing was never the most beautiful. Ladies dressed in straw bowler hats, skirts that hit the floor, high neck blouses and formal buttoned shoes were seen in the 1800’s when golf first began to be a popular sport for women. The first fashionable women’s golf wear was designed by Burberry in 1922, the self belted golf suit. It was known as the earliest attempt to bring fashion into the golf world.
Besides that, the sweater and pleated skirt soon became icons of traditional golf styles amongst women. Although not always fashionable, it was more comfortable and made swinging the club easier than previous outfits. Styles began to move quickly as more designers jumped on the band wagon to create fashionable golf clothing.
“In the mid 1920’s, many stores began selling a one-piece golf dress. New York’s Best & Co. sold a dress they called the “Shirtmaker.” This one-piece frock was perfect for golf and other active sports, and was so popular that it was widely copied and became the most popular golf dress style for the next 30 years.”
Eventually more styles set in and it became ok for women to wear sleeveless blouses and even bermuda shorts on the green. The early styles have made a great influence on many designers today. Kelly Chon takes inspiration from all these styles while considering other popular styles from today’s golfers and fashion in general. She is among one of the only designers that takes inspiration directly from the old fashioned designs and turns it into chic, elegant designs wearable on or off the golf course.

Texas Active Lifestyle Trade Show Approaching
Posted: July 20th, 2010 | Author: kelly | Filed under: Blog | No Comments »As I sit here at my desk I can see Kelly working as hard as ever on designing samples to show our new prospective vendors. It’s a busy time, just a few weeks before one of the largest Golf and Tennis trade shows in US. The trade show is in Houston Texas August 10th through the 12th. Shi Golf will stand tall amongst many popular vendors and promote the new Fall line. Kelly will be handing out specially made Shi Golf cookies to all guests of the booth, what a sweet idea! Here’s wishing both Kelly and Shi Golf the best of luck as they reach out to completely new territory.
Shi Golf in the Making
Posted: July 7th, 2010 | Author: kelly | Filed under: Blog | No Comments »Many people have asked or wondered how Shi Golf came about. The inspiration, the ideas, oh, and why golf? Looking through the popular golf styles worn on the green these days I’d say that designer Kelly Chon found an amazing niche. We’re not trying to say there are no pretty or fashionable golf lines on the market. They just seem to be drowned out by bright colors, baggy cropped pants, and extreme floral patterns. Shi Golf actually does stand out for me as I desperately search the internet for golf clothing I’d feel pretty in.
The Shi Golf line is fashion chic golf apparel designed with the inspiration from traditional golf styles. All the clothes are made with the softest fabrics and the perfect fit to make a woman look cute and feel great on or off the course. When women feel great about the way they look it can add another layer of fun to the game.
“Traditional golf apparel did not suit my sense of style nor did it fit well.” says Kelly, So as a designer, I began to coordinate my golf outfits with pieces and accessories from my favorite ready-to-wear clothing lines while incorporating key traditional golf pieces. The compliments and questions about my golf outfits from my girlfriends who golf and other golfers were overwhelming. It was then that I was inspired to create Shi Golf, a contemporary women’s golf wear line that would be appropriate for golf course requirements yet chic enough to be worn outside the golf course. With its versatile style, modern fit, chic designs, and quality fabrics, Shi Golf was designed to be carried at any golf course or boutique.”

Posted: June 30th, 2010 | Author: kelly | Filed under: Blog | No Comments »Work is steady as we prepare for our first Trade Show together in August. The Texas Active Lifestyle Show(TALS) is one of the largest retail buying shows for Active Lifestyle brands in the country. The show will feature vendors and buyers for golf and tennis too! Shi Golf will be there amongst many other popular vendors such as Addidas, Callaway Golf, Ralf Lauren, Puma, and too many to count. We’re hoping to expand Shi Golf further across the country and trying to appeal to tennis buyers as well.
As the graphic designer for the brand I find myself intrigued. This really is such a great opportunity to express my creativity and push Shi Golf out into the world. Previewing the new line is another perk from my standpoint. It’s amazing to see a fashion designer’s process. Samples of the new line will be shown at TALS as well as our core collection. So much to do and so much fun to have as we prepare for our big three day trip to Houston!
